SPOTLIGHT: The Transition: EVERY ATHLETE’S guide to life after sports

By Kelli Tennant

Former volleyball player Kelli Tennant writes about the transition from sport to life and its effects on athletes from identity crisis to eating disorders to loss of social network. Through various testimonies from former athletes, Kelli touches on the biggest challenges of the transition in an easy-to-read and candid book. Her message is inspiring and positive, encouraging athletes not to dwell into the sadness and despair but rather to embrace the process and look forward to new adventures. She acknowledges that all athletes will retire and experience the effects of the transition to some extent, but that they are not alone. A must-read for all retiring athletes.

Key words: identity crisis, loss of social network, process of grief, dealing with the transition
